Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas shared two lessons he learned from Tesla CEO Elon Musk and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang on the 20VC podcast. Srinivas said Jensen Huang operates NVIDIA as if the company could fail at any moment despite its success, stating, "Think about it. $5 trillion, guaranteed to make $500 billion in revenue in the next two years. He has the most advanced chips in the world. And he operates with the mentality that he could be 30 days away from going out of business." Regarding Elon Musk, Srinivas said Musk taught him the importance of working toward a larger goal rather than focusing on money, noting Musk's pay package for SpaceX is "structured around creating a colony on Mars with a million inhabitants." Srinivas also suggested that the company generating the most economic value per watt consumed by AI systems, a metric he called "token value per watt per user," will define the AI race's winner. Additionally, Srinivas said he does not support developing a company, selling it, and stepping away after becoming wealthy, emphasizing that work should be about more than money.
