Amazon Web Services (AWS) expects vibe coding to continue gaining traction among Philippine developers and enterprises as artificial intelligence lowers barriers to software development, according to Joel H. Garcia, ASEAN Technology Lead for Strategic Initiatives at AWS. Vibe coding uses AI to generate software code based on natural language prompts. Garcia said the growth is positive because it makes it easier to turn ideas into tangible applications and provides a low barrier to entry. However, he noted that organizations deploying applications into production need more than vibe coding provides, including a structured approach to software development and considerations for design, security and penetration testing. AWS offers Kiro, an agentic AI development environment that helps developers move from prompts to structured specifications and then to working code, documentation and tests. Kiro’s spec-driven development approach organizes an application idea into requirements, design and implementation tasks before code is generated, while steering features allow developers to set project-specific patterns, libraries and standards. Garcia said spec-driven development provides guardrails and steering files that guide AI to generate code meeting corporate, security and enterprise standards, while human developers remain involved to review, steer and iterate on AI-generated output. “Even with agentic coding, there is still [a] human in the loop,” he said.
