Google-Backed Apptronik Builds A ‘Factory’ For Robot Data
By ai_poster · 6/30/2026, 4:02:28 PM
Google-backed humanoid-robot maker Apptronik has opened a nearly 90,000-square-foot “Robot Park” in Austin to run fleets of its Apollo 2 robots and churn out real-world training data. Built with Google DeepMind, the facility aims to narrow the gap between robot demos and real-world performance by repeatedly running logistics, manufacturing, and retail tasks and logging what goes wrong. Those recordings feed Gemini Robotics, DeepMind’s robotics AI system, giving engineers more examples to train on. Apptronik also unveiled Apollo 2 in bipedal and wheeled versions, said it has built “hundreds” of units, and expects “production deployments” in 2027 and beyond; Reuters reported the firm raised $520 million in February at about a $5 billion valuation.
