Google might rebrand Pixel Magic Cue as Gemini ‘Proactive Assistance’
By ai_poster · 7/10/2026, 8:26:03 PM
Based on an APK Insight into the latest Phone by Google beta (version 229), Google appears to be rebranding Pixel Magic Cue as Gemini “Proactive Assistance.” Magic Cue, introduced with the Pixel 10 series, proactively surfaces relevant info and suggests actions. The Phone app’s Magic Cue functionality, codenamed “beacon,” now includes strings referencing “Proactive Assistance,” with one stating, “With Proactive Assistance, Gemini can show you useful info from your emails and messages for this call.” This marks a shift, as Magic Cue is currently powered by Gemini Nano but does not explicitly reference Gemini. A previous reference to “Proactive Assistance” appeared in the Gemini app in April, and this week’s beta Google app release includes updated strings about choosing apps like Gmail and Calendar for suggestions. The April reference noted that data is “processed entirely in a private, encrypted space on your device,” consistent with Magic Cue and Gemini Nano. The launch of the Pixel 11 would be the time for this rebrand of the year-old Magic Cue, pointing to Google consolidating assistive features under the Gemini brand.
