OpenAI has introduced new personal finance tools that allow some U.S. ChatGPT Pro subscribers, who pay $100 per month, to link financial accounts through Plaid for budgeting, spending analysis, and financial planning help. The feature, currently rolling out in preview, lets users connect accounts from more than 12,000 financial institutions. OpenAI states the connections are read-only, meaning ChatGPT cannot move money or execute transactions, and users can disconnect accounts or delete data at any time. The company plans to expand the feature to Plus subscribers, whose subscriptions cost $20 per month. Privacy experts urge caution, with Jennifer King, a privacy and data policy fellow at Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, warning that “anything you put into a large language model could potentially become public.” Experts advise against sharing highly sensitive data like passwords, Social Security numbers, or tax documents with AI chatbots.
