China’s AI boom is creating a market where ordinary people can license their faces for AI-generated dramas, advertisements and games. Platforms such as Shenzhen-based Yuanxiang Xinsheng, which operates ActID, let users register their faces after identity verification and create digital actor profiles; producers can search profiles by characteristics such as age, gender and appearance. Users can set conditions on use, including the type of production and duration of permission, and Yuanxiang Xinsheng says permission to use a face does not automatically include permission to use facial data for AI training, which requires separate consent. Reported fees range from as little as 50 yuan to 99,999 yuan, close to ₹15 lakh, though the highest figure is a reported upper end. ActID has registered around 800 users since launching in March, with about 300 agreeing to license their likenesses; two AI drama productions had used around 10 faces, with reported fees of 99 to 500 yuan per episode and ActID taking a 10 percent commission. Another Chengdu platform, Xinzhua, lists around 370 digital actor profiles with fees from 500 yuan to 6,000 yuan.
