Samsung Electronics created a dedicated RX (Robotics eXperience) organization, reporting at CEO level, to consolidate its robotics strategy, core-technology research and commercialization under one structure, according to Reuters’ report on Samsung’s July 21 announcement. The division is intended to make robotics a future growth business with humanoid and industrial applications at the center. Samsung has not announced a retail humanoid robot, a final product name or a confirmed launch date, but has recruited a strategy leader and announced plans for research hubs in the United States, China and Japan. Reports identify Roh Tae-moon as the executive leading the new RX Office. Samsung appointed Executive Vice President Lee Dongkun to lead its Robotics Strategy Team; before joining Samsung, Lee led robotics strategy at Hyundai Motor Group, including work connected with Boston Dynamics. The unit will expand research capabilities in South Korea and overseas while accelerating development and commercialization.
