ByteDance has released Seedance 2.5, an AI video tool that appears to improve on its predecessor, Seedance 2.0, which was launched earlier this year and produced realistic versions of movie scenes featuring cinema’s biggest stars. The new version features more realistic humans and natural dialogue, allows users to generate 30 seconds of footage, effectively doubling the previous capacity, and adds Long Video Mode for character and background consistency up to three minutes per clip. It also includes Dreamina AI plugins for Maya and Blender. Director Neill Blomkamp recently showcased Seedance 2.0 via his trailer for Nightborne, which has nearly equal Likes (9k) and Dislikes (8.4k) on YouTube. The new Seedance 2.5 demo videos avoid image rights violations by featuring synthetic characters that “almost” look like some favorite actors, such as a mix of Aaron Eckhart and Matt Smith. This suggests a coming wave of AI video-powered “generic brand” amalgam faces that blend images of actresses like Scarlett Johansson and Charlize Theron to create familiar archetypes that may fall short of violating rights.
