According to data released by cybersecurity company Kaspersky, ChatGPT accounted for 2.41 per cent of app usage among Indian children over the past six months, placing it seventh in the company's list of the 20 most-used apps and overtaking Roblox (1.79 per cent). YouTube topped the rankings with a 30.68 per cent share, followed by WhatsApp (29.14 per cent), Instagram (10.24 per cent), Chrome (9.35 per cent), Facebook (2.55 per cent) and Brave (2.50 per cent). Kaspersky said its latest global study found that AI-related apps and services climbed from sixth to third place in children's Google searches between May 2025 and April 2026. Jaydeep Singh, general manager for India at Kaspersky, stated the findings indicate AI has become a daily tool for homework, quick answers, and conversation. Researchers warned that interactions with chatbots can expose children to misinformation or unsuitable content. To address concerns, Kaspersky partnered with KidZania to establish Cyber Investigation Centres in Mumbai and Delhi NCR, launched in April 2026, for children aged six and above to engage in role-play exercises involving phishing, identity theft, and cyberbullying.
