On July 6, Li Bojie, a former Huawei "Genius Youth" and Chief Scientist at Pine AI, publicly criticized DeepSeek's interview process on social platforms, sparking widespread attention. After passing the written test, DeepSeek delayed arranging an interview for half a month, and during the second interview, the interviewer accused him of "copying code" simply because he used dual monitors, causing him to terminate the interview. Two interpretations emerged: one exposed talent recruitment issues during DeepSeek's rapid expansion, while the other misinterpreted Li Bojie's career change as a signal of poor management at Pine AI. In the early hours of July 7, Li Bojie responded, stating Pine's product growth is very strong and the company is operating normally, clarifying he is not the founder but the Chief Scientist. Vincent Sun, CTO & Co-founder of Pine AI, clarified that Li Bojie joined as a consultant in June 2024 and officially as Chief Scientist in February 2025, and his departure was due to different research directions. Li Bojie explained he decided to join a foundation model company to research closer to the "upper limit of intelligence," not because Pine AI was underperforming.
