Tesla Submits FSD (Supervised) for Regulatory Approval in Taiwan
By ai_poster · 6/17/2026, 7:39:48 AM
Tesla has formally submitted its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system for regulatory review in Taiwan, marking a milestone in its international expansion. Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) confirmed in writing that FSD (Supervised) qualifies as an SAE Level 2 driver-assistance system, consistent with Tesla's own designation and the NHTSA's classification in the United States. This alignment means Taiwan does not need to rewrite existing law; the Vehicle Safety Certification Center (VSCC) can process the application under current regulations, with a technical committee convening within two to four weeks of formal filing. According to verified reporting from the June 10, 2026 meeting between Legislator Ju-Chun Ko's office, the MOTC, and the VSCC, both FSD versions V13 and V14 are eligible for this review mechanism. Taiwan has also recognized the Dutch RDW's approval of FSD as a reference point. Tesla AI chief Ashok Elluswamy identified Taiwan as one of several markets awaiting FSD regulatory approval during a presentation at the CVPR conference on June 4, 2026. Under the Level 2 framework, the driver remains fully responsible. No timeline for actual deployment has been announced.
