Databricks and Microsoft have expanded their partnership into the 2030s, with Databricks deepening its bet on Azure by growing its use of Azure Databricks to run its own core business operations and analytics. Both companies are advancing native integration across the Microsoft stack, including Databricks Genie and Microsoft 365. Judson Althoff, CEO of Microsoft Commercial Business, stated that the next generation of AI will be defined by how organisations turn knowledge into intelligence, and that Databricks’s decision to run its own workloads on Azure Databricks gives customers confidence. Databricks will increase its use of Microsoft Azure Cobalt; it currently uses Cobalt 100 and plans to adopt Cobalt 200, which Microsoft says could deliver up to 50% better performance compared with the prior generation and includes memory encryption enabled by default. Ali Ghodsi, Co-Founder and CEO of Databricks, noted that with Databricks Genie and Unity AI Gateway integrated across Microsoft’s products, they are helping enterprises unify data and ground AI in business knowledge. At its Data + AI Summit in San Francisco, US, Databricks announced Genie One, described as the next evolution of Genie, which now connects business users to data held both in Databricks and other sources.
