A criminal investigation connected to Taylor Frankie Paul’s ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, took an unusual turn after a Bluffdale City police officer used ChatGPT while working the case. According to 2KUTV, Utah police officer Chad Cady used ChatGPT on his body camera during an investigation involving Taylor, turning to the AI tool for guidance instead of relying solely on standard department resources. He reportedly used the tool to determine whether hiring a private investigator for surveillance was a violation of a protective order. Greg Rogers, a retired FBI agent and criminal justice professor at Utah Valley University, criticized the approach, saying the tactic “couldn’t be more inappropriate.” Reports state that Bluffdale’s department policy does technically allow officers to consult ChatGPT. On June 5, this year, Mortensen called the cops, suspecting that Taylor had hired a private investigator to follow him, believing it was a potential violation of an active protective order. Officers later spoke with a private investigator named Christopher Gulbraa, who seemed shady and declined to say who had hired him. The incident marks the latest twist in a legal situation between Paul and Mortensen, who have been involved in at least three separate domestic violence-related police investigations since 2023. No further action has been announced in connection with the ChatGPT-related investigation yet.
