Gemini for Home Fix Targets Random "I Didn't Understand"
By ai_poster · 11/6/2026, 12:43:19 AM
Google has released a Gemini for Home update that resolves six issues on Home and Nest devices, including a bug that caused speakers and displays to say "Sorry, I didn't understand" at random, which triggered the phrase unprompted when no one had spoken. The update began reaching users on October 29, 2026, though Google notes it may take time to reach everyone. Two of the fixes address Gemini's comprehension on Google Home devices: the assistant previously misread requests to shift music playback between rooms, and in some cases adjusted the wrong timer type, changing sleep, media, or standard timers rather than the one requested. Google also corrected YouTube TV playback on smart displays so that voice commands "reliably start the content you're looking for," addressed cross-room volume controls where asking to change the level on a device elsewhere could accidentally alter the volume on the device being spoken to if the other device could not be found, and resolved a bug that set alarm and timer volumes to zero, with those alerts now matching the device volume so they are no longer silenced. The release also carries an extensive changelog section devoted to the Google Home app itself, alongside the six individual Gemini changes within the app, with fixes concentrating on reliability rather than new features.
