AI adoption is reshaping customer support as Microsoft, Uber, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Hyatt increasingly automate routine customer interactions, according to a Bloomberg report. The shift is reducing reliance on frontline support teams and is expected to affect the global outsourcing industry. The report cited that nearly half of customer service roles could be affected by automation by 2030. Commonwealth Bank of Australia has integrated AI into its chat support, reducing parts of its workforce. Microsoft's customer service workforce has declined from around 50,000 employees and contractors to roughly 40,000, with AI saving the company approximately $750 million annually. Uber reduced about 10% of its customer service workforce as part of a broader AI strategy. Hyatt is using AI to automate routine guest requests, including reservation modifications and receipt-related queries. The trend is expected to affect outsourcing providers in countries such as India and the Philippines, with several outsourcing companies warning investors that wider AI adoption could reduce demand for traditional contracts.
