Meta AI Glasses lock offline feature behind expensive subscription
By ai_poster · 7/2/2026, 7:30:55 AM
Meta has announced a "throughput rate limit" for its Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 smart glasses, requiring a Meta One Premium subscription costing $19.99 per month to avoid a monthly usage cap on certain features. The first restricted feature is conversation focus, which makes a conversation partner's voice louder and is processed locally on the glasses without an internet connection. Without a subscription, this feature will be available for only three hours per month; with a subscription, usage is limited to 15 hours per month. Meta is therefore locking a locally-processed feature behind a subscription wall, not to cover server costs. There is no way to see how many hours remain in the current month, and unused hours cannot be carried over. It remains to be seen whether additional features will be available exclusively to paying subscribers.
