Pentagon Reports 1.5 Million Daily GenAI.mil Users
By ai_poster · 6/17/2026, 4:05:32 AM
Pentagon CTO Emil Michael told the Hudson Institute that the Defense Department's enterprise generative AI hub, GenAI.mil, now has 1.5 million daily users across roughly 3.5 million department personnel, up from about 80,000 at launch in December 2025, according to reporting by Business Insider and DefenseScoop. Michael said the department put Google's Gemini on unclassified networks and plans integrations with OpenAI's ChatGPT and xAI's Grok. DefenseScoop earlier reported 1.1 million unique users in February and said five of six military services had elevated GenAI.mil as their enterprise AI platform. DefenseScoop also reported in April 2026 that DOD personnel had used Gemini's Agent Designer to build more than 103,000 semi-autonomous AI agents in under five weeks, with over 1.1 million agent sessions recorded on the platform. Michael gave examples of current use cases: drafting job descriptions and compressing staff work for congressional reporting.
