A survey by anonymous professional networking platform Blind, sampling 1,552 technology workers in India, found that 66 per cent of artificial intelligence and machine learning professionals expect layoffs within their teams over the next three to six months. Despite ongoing industry investments and widespread automation adoption, tech workers building AI systems feel increasingly vulnerable, according to The Indian Express report. Product and design teams showed similar anxieties, with 65 per cent of respondents anticipating team cuts, while software engineering and data analytics professionals expressed greater confidence. Perceptions of stability varied between multinational corporations and domestic firms, with employees at multinational enterprise software and payments enterprises reporting the highest apprehension, whereas domestic software and SaaS companies displayed higher workplace confidence. Rather than relying on official announcements, employees are tracking subtle organisational shifts, with hiring freezes and budget reductions serving as primary warning indicators, followed by project cancellations and increased reliance on performance improvement plans.
