Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today urged students and researchers to use artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly, stating, “We have to ensure that ChatGPT does not become a copy machine for writing our research papers.” Speaking at a programme marking Gono University Day 2026 at the PHA Auditorium of Gonoshasthaya Kendra in Savar, he said talent knows no boundaries and that teachers should guide students while students must be eager to learn. The minister added, “A nation does not need a nuclear bomb to be destroyed. It is enough to destroy its education sector.” Referring to late Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, he said Gono University had been founded in the spirit of the Liberation War to serve ordinary people. He noted that many countries, including the United Kingdom, now view education primarily as a commercial enterprise, and that he recently attended an international education forum in the UK where ministers from more than 150 countries participated. Highlighting technical and vocational education, the minister said Bangladesh must transform its population into a skilled workforce, adding, “This year alone, an additional Tk 6,000 crore has been allocated in the national budget for technical education.” The programme was chaired by Prof Md Abul Hossain, vice-chancellor of Gono University.
