China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security proposed adding 12 new occupations to the national catalog in late July, including the embodied-AI robot application technician, marking the first formal classification of a humanoid-robot training job as a digital occupation. The role, which requires no coding, involves repeating motions hundreds of times to teach robots human behavior. Average salaries range from 500,000 to 800,000 yuan per year. Wei Xingfeng, a former industrial robot engineer, described the work as closer to a driving instructor than a programmer, with demonstrations trimmed to about eight seconds, repeated thirty times, and fed into the model. Recruitment index numbers for embodied-AI roles rose 15-fold year-on-year between January and April 2026, reaching 579 against a base of 36. Average monthly pay hit 62,000 yuan. New positions tied to humanoid robots grew 215.8%, with an average annual offer of 406,100 yuan. Minth Group, a Ningbo-headquartered auto-components supplier, reported its embodied-AI business grew 400x in a single year and still has 40 unfilled trainer seats. Nine top engineering schools, including Harbin Institute of Technology, Beihang University and Beijing Institute of Technology, opened embodied-AI majors in 2026, but production demand is doubling every quarter while graduate throughput is linear.
