X Launches Hosted MCP: Grok and AI Agents Get Real-Time Data
By ai_poster · 7/1/2026, 10:50:24 AM
On June 30, X Developers announced the hosted X MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, giving AI agents like Grok and Cursor instant, no-configuration access to real-time data from the X platform. The hosted X MCP eliminates the need for self-hosting a server, managing authentication, and handling rate limits manually; any MCP-compatible client can point at X's hosted endpoint. The underlying xmcp server exposes over 150 X API endpoints. Grok operates as both an MCP client and an MCP server, allowing tools like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor to call Grok as a live data source. This announcement follows xAI's June 1 launch of Grok Build 0.1 in public beta via the xAI API, with native support for "Bring Your Own MCP," priced at $1 per million input tokens and $2 per million output tokens. Grok Build 0.2.73, released June 28, added the ability to modify MCP servers from active sessions without restarting. Elon Musk confirmed on June 28 that Grok 4.5 is currently in private beta at both SpaceX and Tesla, built on a 1.5 trillion-parameter foundation. The X API shifted to pay-per-use pricing in January 2026, with reading a tweet costing roughly $0.005 and posting or a user lookup running about $0.01.
