Meta removed a controversial AI feature on Instagram that let users modify photos from public accounts using AI, after backlash. The feature, rolled out earlier this week alongside other AI tools, was part of Muse Image, a new AI image generator built by Meta Superintelligence Labs. It allowed individuals to generate images by @-mentioning public Instagram accounts, but was not designed to alert users if their photos were used. Meta issued a blog post Friday announcing the removal, stating the feature “missed the mark” and is “no longer available.” Puck News founding partner Dylan Byers first shared the decision, noting it came “amid scrutiny from users and talent agencies, including CAA.”
