Apple Strengthens Korean Developer Ecosystem via AI, App Store

On July 29, Apple held a "Domestic Developer Ecosystem Briefing" at Apple Korea in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, announcing support for domestic developers through AI development tools and the App Store. Enwei Xie, Head of Apple International Developer Relations, stated, "South Korea is one of the countries with the most dynamic and creative developer communities in the world." At WWDC26, Apple unveiled a development environment allowing integration of AI features, where developers can choose Apple’s in-house models or external models like Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini. The "Core AI" tool enables AI operation on devices like iPhone and iPad without internet servers. "Xcode 27" introduced direct use of AI models from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI. The Pohang Apple Developer Academy, opened in 2022, has produced over 1,000 graduates, with apps released on the App Store surpassing 400. Over six years, approximately 600 Korean students participated in the "Swift Student Challenge," with over 120 winning awards. Four domestic companies participated: Sketchsoft, Vimosoft, Devsisters, and Nexon subsidiary Mintrocket. Sketchsoft’s "Feather" secured over 100,000 paying users in 156 countries.
