On July 15, OpenAI's ChatGPT suffered a global access outage, with core functions including login and chat generation paralyzed. OpenAI announced via its official status page that it was investigating "login issues and intermittent errors affecting ChatGPT." The outage began to be widely reported around 8:30 a.m. Korean time, with DownDetector recording 1,395 error reports around 8:32 a.m. Users saw messages such as "upstream connect error" or "reset/connection closed before headers." Errors were confirmed across 15 features, including chat generation, login, ChatGPT tasks, search, file uploads, and image generation. The outage was confined to ChatGPT; no significant disruption reports were received for Codex or the application programming interface (API). OpenAI is working to identify the root cause and has not disclosed a timeline for full restoration.
