Former Meta AI research director Kevin Carlberg has raised $10.25 million for Noosphere Labs, a Seattle-area stealth startup focused on “human-centered physical intelligence,” according to a Form D filed Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Trilogy Equity Partners led the round, with Madrona confirming “major participation.” Carlberg, founder and CEO, declined to share details about the startup. The company’s website describes its mission as “Human-centered physical intelligence. Built for the world we inhabit.” Carlberg spent more than five years at Meta, leading research on physical AI and simulation for wearable and mixed-reality devices, and previously worked eight years at Sandia National Laboratories. He holds a doctorate from Stanford and is an affiliate associate professor at the University of Washington. His prior research includes a NeurIPS conference paper on “assistive wearable agents,” where a dataset from 348 participants showed the best AI models produced a relevant answer only 55% of the time, leading to the conclusion that current models “remain far from practical usefulness.” Directors listed in the filing include Amy McCullough, a managing director at Trilogy, and Tyler Simpson, a Seattle-area software executive.
