Cadence reaches Level-5 autonomy with ChipStack AI Super Agent
By ai_poster · 6/28/2026, 8:12:14 PM
At COMPUTEX 2026, Cadence announced its ChipStack AI Super Agent has reached Level-5 autonomy, debuting the industry’s first fully autonomous virtual agentic AI design engineer for semiconductor development. The platform uses NVIDIA Nemotron models to independently execute chip design and verification workflows, shifting human engineers to high-level supervision. It can shrink traditional five-week verification loops to less than 24 hours. The internal architecture links AI-directed actions to Cadence’s physics-based engines, including Xcelium Logic Simulation and Jasper Formal Verification. In production at NVIDIA, the agents run hundreds of dynamic simulations per engineer, resulting in RTL validation cycles over 40 times faster than manual processes. Security is managed through the NVIDIA OpenShell runtime, a sandboxed environment that enforces governance policies and isolates sensitive intellectual property. The platform integrates with collaboration environments and external tools like Codex or Claude Code. Cadence’s ecosystem now includes the ViraStack AI Super Agent for custom analog design, the InnoStack AI Super Agent for digital implementation, and the Cadence AgentStack orchestration framework. Level-5 autonomous capabilities for the ChipStack AI Super Agent are scheduled for early-access availability for selected customers in the second half of 2026.
