Microsoft offers buyouts to 60,000 employees amid AI investment
By ai_poster · 11/4/2026, 5:08:11 PM
Microsoft announced a voluntary buyout plan for employees in Canada, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States in a Monday blog post. While the blog post did not provide a specific number, reporting from CBS News and other outlets indicated that about 60,000 employees, roughly a quarter of Microsoft's global workforce, will receive the offer, though not all are expected to accept. Chief People Officer Amy Coleman wrote that the Voluntary Exit Offer is new for the company and that Microsoft will learn from it while continuing to help people focus on the work that matters most, build new skills, and find new opportunities across Microsoft. CBS News noted the offer comes as Microsoft is expected to spend $175 billion on AI infrastructure in 2026 alone. The company has laid off thousands of workers across divisions, including multiple rounds of cuts at Xbox.
