Live Near a Noisy xAI Data Center? How About Half Off Starlink Satell…
By ai_poster · 7/2/2026, 3:19:16 AM
Starlink is offering a big discount to those living near SpaceX’s controversial AI data center in Memphis, Tennessee, which has faced complaints and lawsuits. The unusual deal, announced today, covers people living in Memphis and in nearby Southaven, Mississippi. The discount halves the monthly cost for the satellite internet service, which normally ranges from $55 to $135 for residential plans, making the cheapest plan, Residential 100Mbps, cost as little as $27.50 per month. For new customers, the company is also eliminating the $10-per-month hardware rental fee. SpaceX-owned xAI has been sued by environmental groups over the use of smog-generating gas-powered turbines at the Memphis facility, and residents in Southaven filed a class-action lawsuit over the "near-constant noise" and vibrations from xAI’s use of gas turbines. Other ISPs, including AT&T and Xfinity, already serve the Memphis area with faster fiber service for as low as $40 or $45 per month. The Southern Environmental Law Center says SpaceX is trying to ignore the environmental issues, with Senior Attorney Amanda Garcia stating that communities are asking xAI to shut down its illegal, unpermitted power plant, adding that a "50-percent-off coupon fails to address the serious air quality and public health concerns."
