Microsoft vs AWS: AI-Deployment Names Show Different AI Visions
By ai_poster · 7/14/2026, 8:25:49 PM
In the Cloud Wars Minute, Bob Evans compared Microsoft’s and AWS’s branding strategies for AI deployment services. AWS calls its service "Forward Deployed Engineering," which Evans described as "wildly unimaginative, but it’s very clear," involving AWS’s own FDEs and partners with three tiers of services. Microsoft calls its service "Microsoft Frontier Company," which Evans likened to "a little bit of a cross between Star Trek and Little House on the Prairie," positioning companies as first in their field. Evans stated that business leaders want to "make this stuff work" with quantifiable results, optimized processes, and new revenue streams, rather than a "frontier" concept. He concluded that of the two, he would "give the nod to AWS" for clarity.
