Chairman Chung Eui-sun of Hyundai Motor Group emphasized the keyword ‘Physical AI’ at the ‘AI Summit’ in San Francisco on July 24 (local time), presenting a strategy expanded to the ‘city level.’ Chung stated the group is transitioning from a traditional automaker to a Physical AI solutions company, with the ultimate goal of realizing integrated intelligence at the city level. The vision consists of three stages: intelligentizing individual devices like vehicles and robots, establishing ‘AI factories,’ and connecting core urban infrastructure such as mobility, robotics, and energy in real time. The group cited manufacturing, robotics technology acquired through Boston Dynamics, and a data flywheel as competitive strengths. Hyundai Motor Group announced plans to continue collaborating with NVIDIA, Waymo, and Google DeepMind to implement Physical AI, and will co-develop autonomous Genesis vehicles with NVIDIA. The group identified San Francisco and Silicon Valley as the most suitable hubs for such collaborations.
