What Elastic and OpenAI's New Partnership Means for CX Service Manage…

Elastic and OpenAI have expanded their partnership to give AI agents governed access to logs, tickets, and alerts, aiming to reduce the time between an alert firing and a CX observability team understanding system issues. The partnership targets the evidence-gathering phase before triage, using Elasticsearch as a retrieval layer for lexical and vector search, permission controls, and filtering, while OpenAI provides reasoning to turn evidence into a likely root cause. Visa cut mainframe threat triage from 10-20 minutes to seconds, and Airtel reports up to 40% faster triage. According to Gartner, unstructured data, including logs, tickets, and traces, makes up 70% to 90% of enterprise information. Greg Tademoto, VP of Business Development and Strategic AI Partnerships at Elastic, said enterprise AI success depends on connecting models with knowledge buried in unstructured data. Colleen Kapase, VP of Strategic Global Partnerships at OpenAI, stated that great AI needs great context, helping build more accurate and secure AI agents. The approach involves agentic investigation, where an alert triggers automatic correlation across signals, surfaces a likely root cause, and allows an SRE to start with evidence already assembled, potentially enabling a junior analyst to respond from a pre-built case.
