Meta’s latest smart glasses, on sale for several weeks, allow users to film, listen to music, and chat with AI, and are now available in multiple models, including the most expensive, designed by influencer Kylie Jenner, sold for €419 ($482) in Spain. The London-based activist group Everyone Hates Elon has launched a campaign with at least three posters, including an image of pedophile Jeffrey Epstein with the slogan “Glasses for people who don’t do consent,” a skull bearing “We’re always watching,” and “Biggest advance in pervert technology since the trench coat.” EL PAÍS contacted the group but received no response. Due to the campaign’s spread on social networks, Instagram, also a Meta platform, will ban videos recorded with Meta glasses involving harassment of strangers, announced by Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram. Two types of controversial videos circulate: humiliating pranks on workers and videos of women filmed without consent. A Meta spokesperson said the glasses have an LED that flashes when taking a photo or video, cannot be turned off, and if covered or damaged, the camera doesn’t work. Researcher Joseph O’Hagan at the University of Glasgow noted communities of users try to disable the LED, with the most common method today being a drill to pull it out, and that users justify covering it for reasons including taking photos of children who don’t like their photo taken, but there is a growing perception this facilitates
