Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland that jobs building chip, computer, or AI factories can earn hundreds of thousands of dollars, and that anyone can make a good living without a degree. He stated that the skilled manual labor segment in every economy will see a boom, and this workforce will have to double every year. Huang warned of a shortage of skilled electricians and plumbers, noting that the world is on the verge of "the largest infrastructure construction in human history," which will create jobs for plumbers, electricians, construction workers, and metalworkers. A data center spanning over 23,000 square meters may require up to 1,500 construction workers during construction, with many earning over $100,000 per year, not including overtime pay. When completed, the center will employ approximately 50 full-time staff, and each job will create approximately 3.5 additional jobs. According to McKinsey's forecast, total global capital spending on data centers could reach $7 trillion by 2030. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink said he has expressed concerns to the White House about the deportation of immigrant workers and a lack of interest among young Americans creating a "major storm" for data center construction. Ford CEO Jim Farley also reiterated concerns about the gap between manufacturing ambitions and the workforce needed. The U.S. is short of approximately 600,000 factory workers.
