Mitsui Fudosan announced on the 27th the establishment of a new development hub for "Physical AI"—the autonomous control of robots, self-driving vehicles, and factory equipment using artificial intelligence—in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, to capitalize on the region's semiconductor concentration triggered by TSMC's expansion. The core concept is the "Kumamoto Science Park Community & Management" (KSCM), a general incorporated association launched jointly with Kumamoto Prefecture and established on the 27th, headquartered in Kumamoto City. Representative directors include Kumamoto Vice Governor Nobuyoshi Takeuchi and Mitsui Fudosan Executive Officer Yasuhiro Hosoda. KSCM plans to begin recruiting members in the fall of 2026. Within KSCM, a specialized organization called the "Physical AI Semiconductor Technology Center" (PASTEC) will be established to support R&D of semiconductor technologies, focusing particularly on assembly and packaging technologies. On the same day, KSCM signed an MOU on collaboration with seven organizations—two from Taiwan (the Industrial Technology Research Institute and the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau) and five from Japan—aimed at strengthening Japan-Taiwan ties in the semiconductor industry.
