OpenAI's Compute Spending Surges to $750 Billion, Pours Over $30 Bill…
By ai_poster · 7/23/2026, 4:09:47 PM
OpenAI has raised its projected compute capital expenditure through 2030 from $600 billion to $750 billion, a 25% increase. The company simultaneously announced "Project Camellia," a plan to invest over $30 billion to design and build a super data center in Georgia with 3.2 gigawatts of power capacity, expected to come online in phases between 2028 and 2032. To accelerate construction, OpenAI poached Brent Mayo, an expert who previously helped xAI build its supercomputer. Meanwhile, the AI boom has spread to the server CPU market, where Intel and AMD, facing supply shortages, are asking Chinese clients to sign long-term procurement contracts of two years or more. Prices for some CPUs in China have surged over 40% year-to-date, signaling a full-scale escalation in the global AI infrastructure arms race.
