Microsoft has launched Frontier Company, a new initiative backed by a $2.5 billion investment and approximately 6,000 AI engineers and industry experts, to help customers move AI projects from experimentation to production. The initiative combines AI engineers, industry specialists, and deployment expertise to deploy AI systems and measure business outcomes, focusing on redesigning workflows, deploying AI agents, integrating AI into existing business systems, establishing governance, and continuously improving AI deployments after they go live. Microsoft describes the effort as outcome-driven engineering that remains engaged after deployment, building on its earlier concept of the "Frontier Firm." The announcement reflects a broader shift in the AI market, as enterprise customers increasingly ask how foundation models create measurable value inside an organization. Judson Althoff, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Microsoft, wrote in a company blog post that "every business leader knows the world is changing," but "far fewer have a clear picture of what to do about it."
