Red Hat has unveiled a new open source community project named asago (AI Safety And Governance Orchestration) to help enterprises automate AI governance policies for safe deployment. Supporting organizations include Microsoft, IBM Research, the Alan Turing Institute, and Brave Software. The project uses a standardized platform to translate corporate and regulatory AI governance policies into operational controls, addressing bottlenecks caused by translating policy into software configurations. It will focus on risk mapping, risk assessment, risk mitigation, and production deployment. The framework will automatically read and interpret policies, mapping requirements to frameworks such as the NIST AI RMF, OWASP LLM Top 10, and the EU AI Act, using the IBM AI Risk Atlas. It will generate and execute automated safety testing scenarios based on specific risks, recommend mitigations like safety guardrails, and provide deployment-ready configurations with a continuous audit trail. Red Hat announced the project amid growing concerns about AI security risks, particularly with agents.
