Google’s Gemini-powered Ask Maps chat in Google Maps is launching globally today after its US rollout in March, expanding in English to “Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, and Mexico, along with over 150 countries and territories.” Ask Maps now integrates Personal Intelligence, starting with Gmail, allowing it to factor in upcoming flights or dinner reservations for relevant suggestions, such as nearby recommendations based on a hotel reservation. This feature requires manual enablement, with Google Calendar and other apps support coming soon. Ask Maps also remembers past conversations if History settings are enabled, letting users ask, “Remind me, what activities did you suggest for my trip to Seattle?” Additionally, it now provides real-time transit information for buses, trains, subways, and ferries, with a “virtual departure board” updating live for delays. These three features are rolling out “everywhere Ask Maps is available.” New agentic capabilities enable complex tasks like food ordering, with support for Square and Toast at launch and Uber Eats “coming soon.” Ask Maps also supports hotel booking, local event discovery, and conversational contributions in the Contribute tab, including uploading a storefront photo to detect new hours. Food ordering, hotel and event discovery, and conversational contributions are rolling out now in the US.
