Tesla has launched Tesla Home, a comprehensive home energy management system (HEMS) that comes standard in every Powerwall, designed to combine hardware tracking with cloud optimization software. The supporting software update, Tesla app version 4.58.6, started hitting customer devices this Monday. The system is powered by a new AI-powered automation engine called Opticaster, which “automatically decides where to source your energy from and how to use it in your home.” Opticaster “assesses your energy usage and the weather forecast to predict your home’s solar generation and energy consumption,” targeting automated savings by prioritizing solar or stored energy when utility prices are high and charging the Powerwall and EV when rates are low. Tesla Home operates as a learning machine, continuously analyzing energy usage, solar production, and local utility prices. The Tesla mobile app now features a dedicated Home Controls menu in Tesla Home, collecting active ecosystem products and their settings under one roof.
