Apple Intelligence China filing explained

China has cleared a regulatory filing for Apple Intelligence, but has not announced that consumers in mainland China can use it yet. A public notice issued on July 15, 2026 listed Apple Intelligence among seven newly filed mobile-device generative-AI services. The filing narrows a gap with Chinese phone makers, but Apple has published neither a mainland rollout date nor a China-specific list of supported devices and features. The Cyberspace Administration of China’s filing framework covers generative-AI services; Xinhua’s July 15 republication of the notice named Apple Intelligence among the seven new on-device services. Chinese reporting identifies July 8, 2026 as the filing date for Apple智能, while July 15 is when the public notice announced the group of seven services. Apple Technology Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is the filing entity. Alibaba confirmed that its Qwen model family will be part of the implementation. Reuters also reported that Apple’s China service will draw on models from Alibaba and Baidu, though neither Apple nor Baidu has published a technical breakdown.
