Google announced today in the August edition of The Small Business Bulletin, its LinkedIn newsletter published by Google Small Business, that appearing in AI search results requires no specialised code, and corrected misconceptions about its Gemini integration for Google Business Profile, including the belief that accounts managing several locations are excluded. The edition, sent to 32,745 subscribers, covers optimisation for generative AI features in Search, a support chatbot inside the Business Profile Help Center, and myth-busting on the Gemini integration launched two months ago. The Google Small Business page lists 129,263 followers. The newsletter opens by addressing the dominant question from business owners—"How do I make sure my business shows up in AI search results?"—and cites an AI Optimization Guide on Search Central concluding that "You don't need complex technical hacks or special coding." Regarding grounding, Google Small Business states that when Google AI responds to a customer prompt, it grounds information using web pages and Business Profiles, citing sources directly. Consequences include AI Overviews with prominent, clickable links, where first-hand expertise determines which business surfaces; query decomposition, allowing a single detailed page to surface across multiple related queries; and non-text retrieval, as generative surfaces are not limited to text.
