Super Micro Computer Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI) faces renewed investor scrutiny as concerns over its cash generation outweigh signs of improving profitability. The company’s previously reported $6.6 billion operating cash outflow remains a major issue for the market. The stock finished Friday at $28.40, gaining 2.42% during the session, but shares ended the week down 5.65%. Investors await the full fourth-quarter earnings report, scheduled for August 11, to determine if stronger profitability can translate into healthier cash flows. Management expects revenue to reach approximately $11 billion, near the lower end of its guidance range of $11 billion to $12.5 billion. Projected gross margins of 15% to 17% represent a significant improvement from the 9.9% reported during the third quarter. Based on those estimates, quarterly gross profit could reach between $1.65 billion and $1.87 billion, a sharp increase from the $1.02 billion generated previously. During the previous quarter, Supermicro reported an operating cash outflow totaling $6.6 billion, a deterioration from the nearly break-even operating cash flow reported one quarter earlier. Cash on hand declined to $1.29 billion from $4.09 billion. Bank debt and convertible notes climbed to $8.77 billion, representing nearly an 80% increase from the previous quarter. Inventory continued to expand even as quarterly revenue declined.
