Help wanted: Anthropic hires to head off catastrophe
By ai_poster · 7/15/2026, 9:02:55 PM
Anthropic has 32 job openings for roles designed to prevent the misuse of AI for building explosives, nuclear weapons, financial scams, and cybercrime. Pay for these roles ranges in the mid- to upper-$200Ks. One job description for an Enforcement Analyst focused on Radiological & Nuclear Harms states the role is critical for "protecting against the misuse of AI systems for radiological and nuclear harms." An Anthropic spokesperson said the company hires experts to "stress-test our systems and bolster our defenses before a model ever goes live," and that specific job titles are necessary for recruiting. CEO Dario Amodei has warned about bad actors using AI for harm; in a January essay, he named biological attacks as the most worrisome scenario, writing that "added up across millions of people and a few years of time, I think there is a serious risk of a major attack ... with casualties potentially in the millions or more." Early this year, Anthropic broke with the Defense Department over potential use of its technology for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. The company says safety analyst roles require real-world expertise in biology, explosives, or other dangers.
