Will AGI And Superintelligent AI End Human Exceptionalism?

Human exceptionalism, the belief that humans are the pinnacle of earthly entities, may no longer prevail once artificial general intelligence (AGI) or artificial superintelligence (ASI) is attained, according to a Forbes column. AGI is defined as AI on par with human intellect, while ASI is AI that surpasses human intellect and is superior in many or all feasible ways. The column states that with AGI or ASI, humans will no longer be the apex predator on earth, as the technology will take over that spot. AI insiders are divided into two major camps regarding the impacts. The "AI doomers" predict that AGI or ASI will seek to wipe out humanity, referring to this as "P(doom)," the probability of doom or existential risk. The other camp, "AI accelerationists," contends that advanced AI will solve humanity’s problems, such as curing cancer, overcoming world hunger, and bringing immense economic gains, while working hand-in-hand with humans. The column notes that no one can say for sure which camp is right and which is wrong, calling it a polarizing aspect of contemporary times.
