OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and SpaceX chief Elon Musk are quarrelling on social media after the launch of the latest ChatGPT model. The standoff came after OpenAI released its GPT-5.6 series of AI models. Altman wrote on X that "the most reliable way to tell is that Elon is obsessed with me again," after Musk began reposting memes targeting Altman, calling him "Scam Altman," and sharing material portraying Grok 4.5 as a leading AI model. Altman replied to Musk's posts, "Homeboy you're the one selling public market investors on short-term space datacenters," referencing SpaceX's plans to launch AI datacentres in space. Musk responded that "We start flying them next year," and repeated claims that Altman stole a charity and "stole all of Apple’s phone technology," hinting at a lawsuit filed by Apple this week. In that lawsuit, Apple accused OpenAI of stealing trade secrets to support AI hardware development, alleging a "coordinated pattern of misconduct at an institutional level." The lawsuit names two former Apple employees as defendants: Tang Tan, now OpenAI's Chief Hardware Officer, and Chang Liu, a former Apple electrical engineer.
