SSI, the Safe Superintelligence company founded by Ilya Sutskever, is expected to release its model in August, according to Gavin Baker, CIO at Atreides Management. Baker made the claim during a podcast discussion about continual learning and sample efficient learning, research problems he says a growing number of labs believe they are close to solving. He argued that if a model can be trained once on something like 10 trillion tokens and then learn sample efficiently from its own interactions without retraining, training as a percentage of semiconductor demand would asymptote to close to zero, shifting the industry's economics. SSI had previously aimed to only release a model when it achieved superintelligence, avoiding interim releases. The company was started in June 2024 by Sutskever, Daniel Gross, and Daniel Levy. SSI raised $1 billion within months of launching at a valuation of roughly $5 billion, followed by a $2 billion round in April 2025 that pushed its valuation to $32 billion, led by Greenoaks with Alphabet and Nvidia joining as strategic backers.
