On July 14, Google announced that the number of users operating on the Gemini application in Southeast Asia has more than doubled in the past year, with the application rising to become the most searched AI assistant in Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. This contributes to the milestone of 900 million monthly active users globally, driven by the region's young population—nearly 40% under 25 years old—and Gemini's local language processing. Nearly 70% of commands in the region were sent in their mother tongue, led by Vietnam (89%), Thailand (87%) and Indonesia (84%). Vietnam leads Southeast Asia in both frequency of use in academia and the rate of local language application on Gemini, with academic activities accounting for 17% of total commands. More than 160,000 students use the Gemini Canvas Exam Preparation tool every month, while educators create 55,000 requests related to teaching support daily. Vietnam is also among the leading countries in requests for programming support and mathematical thinking, with nearly one-third of total interaction on computer platforms.
