Despite impressive advancements in Tesla’s Full Self-Driving technology, a growing number of owners report frustrating regressions where the system repeatedly fails at basic, previously mastered maneuvers. One owner, writing about their Model Y, notes that while FSD (Supervised) does things daily that would have seemed like science fiction a few years ago, recent versions have gone backward in specific, repeatable situations. Near the owner's house, a neighborhood cutout used for a U-turn has not been recognized by FSD for roughly two years, despite the same driver making the same correction at the same spot. The owner notes FSD does not remember their patterns, preferences, or corrections. As reported by Not a Tesla App, Elon Musk acknowledged in July 2026 that FSD will start to “remember your specific interventions and match each person's individual preferences,” a promise with no rollout date. A more worrying regression involves a left turn from the owner's side road onto a main road, which earlier versions handled flawlessly by moving to the far-left turn lane and completing a U-turn. The current version presents the left turn as available, commits to it, only recognizes the curb at the last moment, then hesitates, bails out into a right turn, and sends the car in the wrong direction. Additional quirks include inconsistent parking at the owner's house with no detectable pattern.
