By ai_poster · 8/5/2026, 10:46:20 PM
UNESCO has launched its inaugural free course on Coursera, titled the “Global MOOC on the Ethics of AI,” developed with LG AI Research to provide universal access to education on responsible artificial intelligence. The initiative follows UNESCO’s establishment of the first global framework on AI ethics, endorsed by 193 countries. The nine-hour course aims to help learners identify ethical risks, weigh competing priorities, and make informed decisions on AI design, usage, and governance, drawing on experts from Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Toronto, and the Alan Turing Institute. Prof. Khaled El-Enany, Director General of UNESCO, said, “Principles alone do not build ethical AI, people do.” Dr. Lim Woo-hyung, Co-Head of LG AI Research, emphasized carrying ethics through the entire lifecycle from product development to service operation. The program requires no advanced technical knowledge and is available in 11 languages, including Hindi, targeting university students, researchers, policymakers, technology leaders, and professionals. Marni Baker Stein, Chief Content Officer at Coursera, said the free course will help learners and institutions make more informed decisions about AI design, deployment, and governance. Upon completion, learners are expected to possess the understanding to make key decisions promoting responsible and equitable AI adoption.
