Dr. Joleen Liang, Co-founder of Squirrel Ai, spoke at Harvard University for the third time in a session combining a structured, 1-on-1 in-depth interview with an interactive Q&A session, drawing dozens of master’s and doctoral students from Harvard Business School, Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Harvard Kennedy School. Liang traced Squirrel Ai’s entrepreneurial journey from 2014, when she and her co-founders recognized AI’s value in solving bottlenecks of standardized education and promoting educational equity. She shared early initiatives to drive market adoption when public awareness of AI tutoring was virtually non-existent, building user trust through tangible grade improvements. To date, Squirrel Ai’s intelligent tutoring platform has served over 50 million users. Liang also discussed the company’s strategic transformation following China’s regulatory changes in the tutoring industry in 2021, noting the company remained anchored in its core mission of "empowering education through AI" and has integrated its systems into over 60,000 public schools. She explained the fundamental differences between Squirrel Ai’s proprietary Multimodal Adaptive Education Large Model and generic Large Language Models.
